About Cefra
## What is Cefra?
Cefra is a cross-platform language-learning app designed to help learners build vocabulary efficiently and reach measurable proficiency levels — from A1 to C2 — on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Our approach is simple: targeted repetition of the right words at the right time. Instead of exposing learners to random vocabulary, Cefra focuses on the words that actually matter for each proficiency level.
## How We Curate Word Lists
Every word set in Cefra is aligned with established, authoritative vocabulary references:
- **German**: word lists published by the [Goethe-Institut](https://www.goethe.de) for the Start Deutsch and Goethe-Zertifikat examinations (A1–C1).
- **English**: core vocabulary frameworks from [Cambridge Assessment English](https://www.cambridgeenglish.org), covering the Cambridge English Qualifications spectrum.
Each word is reviewed for frequency, exam relevance, and contextual coverage. Sets are tagged by CEFR level and topic so learners can target exactly the vocabulary they need.
## Our Methodology
Cefra uses spaced-repetition principles to schedule reviews at optimal intervals — showing you a word just before you're likely to forget it. Progress is tracked per word, so the app adapts to your personal learning curve rather than a fixed schedule.
All word sets include native-speaker audio pronunciations and contextual example sentences to support both recognition and active recall.
## Supported Languages
Cefra currently supports learning **German** and **English**, with vocabulary sets spanning A1–C2 levels. We are actively expanding our language catalogue.
