Subject pronouns use the nominative; direct-object pronouns use the accusative.

- Ich sehe Paul. → Ich sehe ihn. — I see him.

- Wir besuchen euch morgen. — We visit you tomorrow.
- Herr Klein, ich höre Sie gut. — Mr Klein, I can hear you well.
A pronoun replaces a known noun and avoids repetition.
