Subject pronouns use the nominative; direct-object pronouns use the accusative.

- **Ich sehe Paul. → Ich sehe ihn.** — I see him.

- **Kennst du mich?** — Do you know me?
- **Wir besuchen euch morgen.** — We visit you tomorrow.
- **Herr Klein, ich höre Sie gut.** — Mr Klein, I can hear you well.
A pronoun replaces a known noun and avoids repetition.
