Everyday Perfect Tense
Use common German perfect-tense forms to talk about simple past activities.

Talking about the past
Spoken German often uses the **Perfekt**. It has two parts:
**haben or sein + past participle**
- **Ich habe heute gearbeitet.**
- **Wir haben Pizza gemacht.**
- **Mia hat Deutsch gelernt.**
- **Du hast einen Film gesehen.**
The conjugated auxiliary is in position 2. The participle goes at the end:
- **Heute habe ich Kaffee gekocht.**
- **Am Samstag haben wir Fußball gespielt.**
Many verbs form the Perfekt with **haben**. Common movement verbs and **bleiben** use **sein** here:
- **Ich bin nach Hause gegangen.**
- **Wir sind nach Berlin gefahren.**
- **Paul ist früh gekommen.**
- **Lea ist zu Hause geblieben.**
Compare **Ich habe gearbeitet.** with **Ich bin nach Hause gegangen.** At A1, first learn these common forms as complete chunks.
