## Result and degree

**Sodass** introduces a real result of the whole situation. **So … dass** highlights the degree of an adjective/adverb; **dermaßen/derart … dass** intensify it. Without an adjective, the intensifier accompanies the verb. **Derartig** may determine a noun. In neutral standard usage, the result clause follows its source situation; fronting is avoided. The finite verb is final.

**Zu … als dass + subjunctive II** names a positive alternative that cannot be realized because the degree is excessive or insufficient. It is not a simple real result.
