Last updated: July 11, 2026

**um** marks an exact clock time, **gegen** an approximate one. **am** is used with days and dates, **in** with months, seasons, life phases, and future intervals. **vor + dative** locates a completed past point; **seit + dative** marks a starting point continuing to the present. **nach** means after, while **während + genitive** marks simultaneity. Idiomatic patterns include **auf** a journey/event, **bei** an activity or weather condition, and **auf** the way home.
