Express beginnings, endpoints, deadlines, and duration precisely with ab, bis, bis zu, von…bis, innerhalb, binnen, außerhalb, über, and zeit.

Last updated: July 11, 2026

**ab + dative** or **von ... an** marks a beginning. **bis** is used without an article; **bis zu + dative** precedes an article. Use **von Mai bis Juli**, but **vom 2. bis zum 16. Juni** with articles. **innerhalb/binnen + genitive** gives a deadline, **außerhalb + genitive** a time outside a range. Postposed **über + accusative** and **lang + accusative** express duration; **zeit + genitive** covers a long lifetime period.

## Example map

- **bis zu + Dativ:** _Bis zum Freitag muss alles fertig sein._
